Singapore Day 2.1 - Universal Studios Singapore

It's USS day!  Y(^.^)Y

Adrian and I woke up early, had our breakfast at the hotel's cafe and headed straight for the MRT. By the way, since it is USS day, a light breakfast would be sufficient unless you're totally immune to dizziness or prefer to ride kiddy rides =P

It's really easy getting to Resorts World Sentosa. Just take the MRT over to Harbourfront. There's a shuttle bus RWS8 just outside Vivocity which takes you directly to Resorts World. The Sentosa Express monorail is really convenient too. If you prefer, you can also take the cable car or simply stroll over to Sentosa on the boardwalk.

We arrived at about 9.30am. There was already a small crowd waiting at the entrance. The park opens from 10am-9pm. The time may vary according to the season. For accurate operating hours, please refer to the Resorts World Sentosa website.

Hollywood's right at the entrance of USS. Lots of character meets and greets here. Different stores selling USS merchandise are located here as well. From candies to magnets to shirts to yes even Betty Boop combs can be found along this street.

No, I didn't get any Betty Boop souvenirs but I did get some really cool USS souvenirs. I love the pin badge design below on the right. Too bad they didn't have that in magnet form. The one on the left in the shape of a star is a magnet though. These were the only 2 souvenirs I bought from USS cause I didn't like the other magnet design they had which was really plain. Did I mention I love the pin badge?

Anyway, Hollywood's probably not the place you want to be early in the morning. Actually Adrian and I skipped Hollywood and New York to get to all the fantastic rides where waiting time is minimal early in the morning! Plus the weather's still cool and great for some outdoor rides. We only came back to Hollywood later in the day. Oh well, I still got sunburn anyway after walking around USS the entire day.

First stop, the Battlestar Galactica! The Cylon and Human roller coasters were AWESOME! Be forewarned that the Battlestar Galactica is a high-speed, turbulent roller coaster that includes sudden and dramatic acceleration, climbing, lifting and dropping. Corkscrew, cobra roll, twisting, turning...it's all there. It will propel you over 14 storeys into the air and zoom at speeds of 82.8km/h. Exciting or what?!

Damn those ugly-looking-screaming-faces-capturing cameras were not working when I rode them so I have take photos of other people riding the Cylon!

Another must-ride is the Revenge of the Mummy which is indoors. This has got to be my favourite ride in spite of my overexcited review of the Battlestar Galactica. I've not gone on the Transformers ride since it was only opened this month. But I heard rave reviews about it. A friend even went for the ride 8 times! Imagine the waiting time!

Look! It's Far Far Away! I've always heard about this place in bedtime stories.

Stopped for ice cream at Friar's. Yummy!

There are many restaurants around USS. Pizzas, steak, fast food, local food, ice cream...your choice. We had lunch at Mel's Drive In because then we could watch Mel's dinnettes shake, rattle and roll just outside.

USS is not just about fast and furious roller coasters. After all, Universal Studios did produce some great movies. The street performances such as Mel's Dinnettes, Daddy O's and The Rockafellas are really entertaining. There are also several stage shows that must be not be missed.

After riding those heart-stopping roller coasters, we spent the rest of the day going for attractions which were less intense such as the junior roller coaster Enchanted Airways (nice relaxing roller coaster), Shrek 4D Adventure (good movie!) and Madagascar: A Boring Crate Adventure (need I say more?).

We went back and forth between these rides and the stage shows. It's all about planning your time. All-in-all, there were attractions for different age groups and preferences. I'll be blogging about the stage shows in my next post since this one is getting really long.
